Be on the lookout for warning signs that may be a signal for problems with people who owe you money.

Remember these are only warning signs.

• Changes in payment pattern
• Your calls being avoided, or calls not returned
• Requests for temporary extended credit
• Dishonoured Cheques
• Other suppliers pressing for payment
• Sudden departure of senior staff
• Selectively paid invoices
• A customer you have been chasing for ages suddenly places a large order with you, pressuring you to be prompt in opening the account.
• The business is on the market
• A big reduction of stock in the store/warehouse

Also be aware of excuses such as :-

• Changing banks
• Restructuring the company
• Awaiting on additional finance
• Cheques in the mail (again & again)
• Many requests for copy invoices
• Waiting on new cheque book
• The accountant/boss is on holidays & no cheques signed
